09 DecAcross The Miles

cupcakeIn New York, The Lover and I were invited to tea with Casey Morgan, who writes Supplicium Post Mortem, a blog I really like about kink, bereavement and exploration, which sounds like an odd combination, but actually really works. We met at a delightful tea shop called Alice’s Tea Cup where I enjoyed real tea – manna from heaven after five days of American coffee – and amazing cupcakes. Casey was everything I’d hoped for – intelligent, charming and with a wicked sense of humour. I was really pleased she’d taken time out to meet us!

It made me think how lucky we are to have the internet as a method of communication. HWMBO is old enough to remember the days of communicating our kinks via post office boxes and personal ads. These days, we can talk to people three thousand miles away, who read our blogs and posts and then we can travel for eight hours in a plane and actually meet them in the flesh, discovering that despite being separated by a continent, kink is universal. True, we have different tastes and ideas and methods of playing but there is a ready made community for us in every corner of the globe.

There was a time where I thought that I was the only person in the world who liked what I liked. It’s a lonely feeling. So discovering, over years, that there are lots of us about is a special feeling, especially when friendships are forged.

So to kinksters all over the world, remember this. You are not alone.

Doesn’t that make you feel good?

Jessica, yes it does, very good indeed.
    Warm hugs,

Yep, it’s awesome… though it does make it rather more difficult to resist getting involved in kink stuff before you’re old enough. But still, I know I’m super lucky to have never felt that lonely “I’m really strange because I’m kinky,” thing, as soon as I started to think about it I just typed things into Google and then I wasn’t alone anymore. I’m also really grateful to people (like you, and lots of others) who create things like blogs and Lowewood which reinforce the feeling that not only is being kinky normal, it’s also really fun.

Here here, as we all know “the internet is for porn”, and I for one am incredibly grateful for it and all the friends it has brought me :-)

Jessica, it was a thrill to meet you and The Lover in the flesh (oo-er). I felt like I was going to meet kink celebrities. ;-) That image does look a bit like your cupcake, except I think the one you had was probably better.
